2027: Aba South Mayor, Obialor Anyanwu Mobilises Labour Party Support Groups, Calls for Unity and Grassroots Expansion
The Executive Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, has intensified efforts to strengthen the Labour Party’s grassroots political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, bringing together leaders of various pro-groups in the area for strategic engagement and mobilisation.
The meeting, held at the Mayor’s Office Complex within the Aba South Council headquarters, assembled heads of support groups operating under the Labour Party, particularly those duly registered with the party, to harmonise interests, promote unity, and establish a coordinated approach to future political engagements.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Anyanwu commended the groups for their commitment, resilience, and sacrifices in promoting the Labour Party and mobilising support at the grassroots. He acknowledged their voluntary contributions to the party’s growth and urged them to intensify their efforts, expressing confidence that Aba South would deliver an unprecedented number of votes for the party in the 2027 general elections.
The Mayor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance, assuring the support groups that the council would continue to encourage and support their activities in recognition of their contributions to the political and developmental aspirations of the area.
He particularly emphasised the need for unity, cooperation, and a common sense of purpose among the various groups, warning against factionalism, unhealthy rivalry, and selective loyalty.
According to him, all support groups must recognise that they are working towards a shared objective: strengthening the Labour Party, sustaining the developmental vision of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and advancing the interests of the people.
Hon. Anyanwu maintained that a united and well-coordinated political structure would be critical to securing victory for the Labour Party in 2027, urging the group leaders to prioritise collective interests over individual ambitions.
On grassroots mobilisation, the council boss charged the groups to take the message of the New Abia to every community, ward, and neighbourhood across Aba South. He encouraged them to engage residents constructively, explain government policies and programmes in simple and accessible language, and counter misinformation with verifiable facts.
He further stressed that active citizen participation and grassroots ownership of government policies were essential to sustaining public confidence and ensuring that the benefits of governance reached the people.
Speaking on behalf of the support groups, the Aba South Coordinator of Abia Arise, Deacon Kingsley Madubuike, expressed appreciation to the Mayor for recognising the contributions of the various organisations and providing an inclusive platform for engagement.
Madubuike pledged the groups’ continued commitment to the Labour Party and the administration of Governor Alex Otti, while advocating greater inclusion of support groups in governance-related activities and grassroots sensitisation programmes across the local government area.
The engagement ended on a note of renewed optimism, with participating leaders expressing readiness to strengthen collaboration with the council administration and the Labour Party leadership. They described the meeting as timely and reassuring, noting that sustained cooperation among the groups would enhance mobilisation, deepen the party’s grassroots presence, and consolidate its political support across Aba South.
Prominent personalities at the meeting included the Leader of the Aba South Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Prince Paul Nwandu; Secretary to the Aba South Local Government, Elder Gideon Adikwuru; Labour Party Chairman in Aba South, Chief Egbebu Nmaju; and Chairman of the Labour Party Stakeholders Forum, Chief Shaka Dimgba Obasi, owner of Panyu Hotel & Resorts.
Others were the representative of Hon. Alex Ikwechegh Campaign Organisation, Rtrn. George Ezikpe; Coordinator of the Abia State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for Aba South LGA, Chief Onyendi Chidi; and Leader of the Yoruba Community, Bashorun Adedeji.
Aba South supervisors and personal assistants to the Mayor were also in attendance.
The meeting underscores the Aba South administration’s determination to foster stronger relationships among Labour Party support groups, promote a unified grassroots political structure, and galvanise wider participation in the New Abia agenda a
