The Abia State Government is intensifying its digital transformation drive with the deployment of 66 graduates of the TechRise programme to critical government offices and agencies, in a strategic move to strengthen technology-driven service delivery and improve public sector efficiency.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, October 19, 2026, while briefing newsmen at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu explained that Governor Otti had directed that 66 of the 86 TechRise graduates who received automatic appointments into the state civil service be deployed to the Office of the Chief Information Officer to support the administration’s digitalisation agenda.
The beneficiaries will also be assigned responsibilities at the State Citizens Contact Centre, Abia State Emergency Contact Centre, Ministry of Health and other government agencies requiring their technical expertise.
The deployment underscores Governor Otti’s commitment to building a technology-driven public service that leverages digital skills, innovation and modern communication systems to enhance governance and improve citizens’ access to government services.
By strategically positioning these young technology professionals across key institutions, the administration is strengthening the capacity of government agencies to respond more efficiently to public needs, improve information management and support effective coordination of essential services.
The initiative also highlights the Otti administration’s determination to translate investment in digital skills development into practical outcomes by creating opportunities for trained professionals to contribute directly to governance while advancing Abia’s digital transformation agenda.
