SMEDAN Reopens ₦50,000 Grant Scheme for Small Businesses, Sets Job Creation Condition
Small business owners across Nigeria have been handed another opportunity to access government financial support as the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has reopened applications for its Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS).
The initiative offers qualified nano and micro enterprises a one-time grant of ₦50,000, which beneficiaries are not required to repay, provided they meet the programme’s conditions.
The funding is designed to help small businesses strengthen their daily operations, invest in expansion, improve productivity and create employment opportunities within their communities.
Job Creation Requirement
A key condition attached to the grant is that every successful beneficiary must employ at least one additional worker. SMEDAN says the requirement is aimed at stimulating job creation while supporting the growth of small businesses across the country.
Why SMEDAN Introduced the Scheme
According to the agency, the Conditional Grant Scheme was created to make financial assistance more accessible to nano and micro enterprises, especially businesses that often struggle to secure conventional bank loans.
Unlike traditional business loans, the ₦50,000 grant attracts no interest and does not require repayment once beneficiaries comply with the programme’s conditions.
SMEDAN explained that the initiative is intended to encourage entrepreneurship, boost productivity, stimulate grassroots economic activities and strengthen the capacity of small businesses to thrive.
The agency also clarified that the Conditional Grant Scheme is different from the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, although both programmes provide ₦50,000 grants to eligible nano businesses.
Who Can Apply?
The scheme is targeted primarily at nano and micro enterprises operating within local government areas across Nigeria.
Applicants will be required to provide both personal and business information during the registration process. SMEDAN advised prospective beneficiaries to ensure that all information submitted is accurate and matches their business records to avoid disqualification.
How the Grant Can Be Used
Successful applicants are expected to utilize the ₦50,000 grant strictly for legitimate business purposes that will enhance the performance and sustainability of their enterprises.
