Abia State Govt Begins Fresh Recruitment of Doctors, Dental Officers, Consultants
The Abia State Government is set to commence another round of recruitment of healthcare professionals as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s health workforce and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu said the latest recruitment exercise would be undertaken by the Abia State Civil Service Commission and comes on the heels of the employment of 742 medical personnel by the present administration.
According to the Commissioner, the new recruitment drive will target key categories of healthcare professionals, including medical officers, dental officers and consultants.
He added that the exercise would accommodate both full-time and part-time consultants, providing an opportunity for more qualified professionals to contribute their expertise to the state’s healthcare system.
The Commissioner further announced that the application portal for the recruitment exercise would open on Monday night, August 10, 2026, paving the way for interested and qualified candidates to apply.
The fresh recruitment underscores the administration’s continued focus on expanding the capacity of the health sector, strengthening its human resources and ensuring that healthcare facilities across Abia are adequately staffed to meet the needs of residents.
