Eight Zamfara Lawmakers Dump Defection Plans, Return to APC Ahead of 2027 Elections
Eight lawmakers from Zamfara State who resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few weeks ago have resolved to return to the ruling party following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The lawmakers met with the President last night, where they reportedly agreed to reunite with the APC and work towards its success in the 2027 general elections, marking a significant political development ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The delegation was led to the Presidential Villa by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, alongside a member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji.
Their decision to return to the APC is expected to strengthen the party’s political structure in Zamfara State as preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 elections.
The eight lawmakers represent various constituencies across the state and are considered important political figures within their respective areas. Their return could provide a boost to the APC’s efforts to consolidate its support base and improve its electoral prospects in Zamfara.
The lawmakers involved in the development are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, representing Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara, representing Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama, representing Bukkuyum North; Muktaru Nasiru Kaura, representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru North; Bashar Bello, representing Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu, representing Gummi I.
Their reported decision to return to the party comes amid growing political realignments across the country as political actors and parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the eight lawmakers now resolving to work for the APC’s success, the development represents a potential boost for the ruling party’s political calculations in Zamfara State ahead of the crucial electo
ral contest.
