Gov. Alex Otti Receives Planet Project Team, Targets December Commissioning of Aba Bus Terminal
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has expressed optimism that the ongoing Aba Bus Terminal will be completed by the end of November 2026, setting the stage for its commissioning and commencement of public use by late November or early December.
Governor Otti stated this on Friday, August 7, 2026, when he received the management team of Planet Project, the construction group responsible for the development of the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia and other major transport infrastructure projects across Abia State.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Governor and the construction company to review the progress of ongoing transport infrastructure projects in the State, particularly the Aba Bus Terminal, while also assessing the operations and security arrangements at the recently delivered Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal.
Governor Otti commended Planet Project for the quality of work delivered at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, noting that the facility has provided residents with an improved transportation experience.
He said the State Government was particularly interested in ensuring that the ongoing Aba Bus Terminal meets an equally high standard, expressing confidence that the project would be completed within the agreed timeframe.
“I have also noted that Aba Bus Terminal is going to be delivered by the end of November.
“It will be very nice to commission it at the end of November or very early December for public use,“ the Governor said.
The Governor also expressed his expectation that the Aba facility would surpass the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in terms of aesthetics and overall quality.
“I want to thank you for a good job. And I expect that even Aba bus terminal will be more beautiful than Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal,“ The Governor stated.
As part of efforts to promote sustainable energy use and reduce pressure on the public electricity supply, Governor Otti directed that the rooftop of the garage at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal be converted to solar power.
He further directed that the same solution should be replicated at the ongoing Aba Bus Terminal.
The Governor said the deployment of solar energy would help reduce the dependence of the terminals on public electricity while supporting the efficient operation of the facilities.
Governor Otti also expressed satisfaction with the growing acceptance of the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, particularly among private transport operators.
He noted that the increasing patronage was an indication of growing confidence in the State Government and its ability to provide modern infrastructure that serves the needs of residents and transport users.
“Our people are adapting to the place, particularly the private operators. And just like you [Biodun Otunola] rightly said, it’s about the confidence they have in the government,“ Gov. Otti stated.
Security at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal also featured prominently during the meeting, with Governor Otti revealing that specific measures had already been approved to strengthen access control and security at the facility.
According to him, walk-through scanners and log-in scanners are to be introduced, while access into the terminal will be restricted to a single entry point.
“We already have given instructions on security clearly. I had instructed that walk-through scanners and log-in scanners be introduced.
“And I’ve also restricted entry to just one point.
“So, I’m sure they are putting everything together.
“So in the next few days or weeks, that security strategy will be implemented,“ Governor Otti stated.
The Governor further stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness at the terminal, directing that additional personnel be deployed to ensure the facility remains clean and properly maintained at all times.
The emphasis on cleanliness, security and effective management is expected to become increasingly important as patronage of the terminal grows, particularly during peak travel periods.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Planet Project, Engr. Biodun Otunola, expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for entrusting the company with the construction of the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, traffic lights and other transport-related infrastructure in the State.
Otunola described the projects as visible testaments to the Governor’s commitment to transforming Abia’s infrastructure and improving the transportation experience for residents.
He officially informed the Governor that operations had commenced at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal and expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded since its opening.
According to him, the level of patronage and acceptance recorded within less than one month demonstrates the confidence residents have in the administration.
Turning to the ongoing Aba Bus Terminal, the Planet Project boss assured the Governor that construction was progressing satisfactorily and that the company remained committed to meeting the November completion target.
“Concerning Aba Terminal, work is going on well there, and we are poised to finish by the end of November.
“Yes, and we are doing everything we can to make sure that project is delivered by November ending,“ Engr. Otunola said.
Otunola also raised the issue of external security at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, requesting additional security arrangements ahead of a possible increase in patronage during the December travel season.
The request comes as the terminal continues to attract more users, with the project team anticipating a significant rise in passenger movement during the festive period.
The meeting further underscored the administration’s broader focus on modernising public transportation infrastructure, improving security and ensuring that newly delivered facilities are properly maintained and effectively managed.
The Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal and the ongoing Aba Bus Terminal form part of the State Government’s efforts to provide a more organised and modern transport system capable of supporting the growing commercial activities of Abia, particularly in Aba, the State’s major commercial hub.
