Lawyer Claims Chicago State University Records Released to Atiku Contained “Shocking Revelations” About Tinubu
Lawyer Kalu Kalu has alleged that the academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu released by Chicago State University (CSU) to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar contained what he described as “shocking revelations,” reigniting public interest in one of the most debated legal controversies surrounding the President’s academic credentials.
Kalu made the claim during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, August 3, 2026, while discussing the legal proceedings in the United States that led to the release of President Tinubu’s academic records by Chicago State University.
According to the lawyer, the documents obtained by Atiku Abubakar through the U.S. court process contained information that sparked renewed discussions about the President’s academic history and became a focal point of public debate after they were made available.
Speaking during the interview, Kalu said, “When the academic records were released to Atiku Abubakar, we found shocking revelations in that document.”
He further stated that the contents of the records attracted widespread public attention after their release through the legal process, maintaining that the documents contained details that generated significant interest.
However, despite making the claim, Kalu did not provide specific details regarding the alleged revelations. He did not identify any particular document, entry, or section of the records that he believed contained the “shocking” information.
The controversy over President Tinubu’s academic records first gained national and international attention following the 2023 presidential election, when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar approached a United States court seeking access to documents held by Chicago State University as part of his legal challenge to the election outcome.
The legal process eventually resulted in the university releasing documents relating to Tinubu’s attendance and academic history, a development that fueled intense political and legal debates across Nigeria.
Following the release of the records, political parties, legal analysts, and members of the public offered differing interpretations of the documents. While opposition figures argued that the records raised questions deserving further clarification, supporters of President Tinubu insisted that the documents did not affect his constitutional eligibility or qualification to serve as President of Nigeria.
Kalu’s latest remarks have once again drawn attention to the long-running controversy, although he stopped short of identifying the specific aspects of the records that informed his assertion.
