#OnThisDay: October 18, 2020 — #EndSARS Launches Soro Soke Online Radio and Helpline Centre
On this day, October 18, 2020, at the height of Nigeria’s historic #EndSARS protests, the movement launched a dedicated helpline centre and an online radio platform known as Soro Soke to strengthen coordination among protesters nationwide.
The initiative provided a communication channel to facilitate the timely sharing of information, improve coordination, and support the peaceful organisation of demonstrations across different parts of the country.
The phrase Soro Soke, which means speak up in Yoruba, became one of the defining expressions of the movement, symbolising the determination of young Nigerians to demand accountability, justice, police reform, and an end to police brutality.
Six years later, the legacy of #EndSARS remains a defining chapter in Nigeria’s struggle for human rights, good governance, and accountable leadership.
The voices that demanded change must never be forgotten.
