“What Have We Gained From Voting Based on Religion?” — Northerner Declares Support for Peter Obi Ahead of 2027
A Nigerian man from the northern region has expressed frustration over persistent insecurity and economic hardship under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, questioning the benefits of voting along religious lines and declaring support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video circulating on X, the man lamented that banditry had prevented farmers from exploiting the vast agricultural lands across Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara states, depriving communities of opportunities to engage in farming and benefit from the region’s agricultural potential.
He expressed concern that despite the availability of extensive farmland, insecurity continues to threaten agricultural activities, leaving many farmers unable to cultivate their land without fear of attacks by armed groups.
Speaking in the viral video, he said, “We have massive land in Kastina, Kebbi, Zamfara but cannot farm because of bandits.
“What have we gained from voting based on religion?
“This is the time to vote for Peter Obi,“ he declared.
His remarks reflect growing public debates about the relationship between religion, political choices, security and economic development, particularly in regions where banditry has disrupted livelihoods and agricultural production.
By declaring support for Peter Obi, the man signalled his preference for a different political direction in the forthcoming presidential election, arguing that voting decisions should be informed by the realities confronting ordinary Nigerians rather than religious considerations alone.
His comments also draw attention to the wider consequences of insecurity in northern Nigeria, where attacks by armed groups have disrupted farming, displacement has affected communities, and threats to rural livelihoods have contributed to concerns about food production and economic stability.
Although his views do not necessarily represent the position of the entire northern region, the video highlights the concerns of a citizen who believes that security, economic opportunity and effective leadership should take priority in determining the country’s political future.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, issues such as insecurity, rising living costs, food production and accountability are expected to remain prominent in public discussions as Nigerians assess political parties, candidates and their proposed solutions to the cou
ntry’s challenges.
