Thousands of supporters of the Abia Arise Movement on Monday, August 3, 2026, flooded the streets of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, in a colourful mega rally organised by the Aba North Local Government Area chapter to reaffirm their unwavering support for the re-election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The rally, which drew an unprecedented turnout of party faithfuls, supporters and stakeholders from across the 12 wards of Aba North, witnessed a vibrant procession through major streets of the city. Participants carried banners, chanted solidarity songs and celebrated what they described as the transformational leadership of Governor Otti before converging at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic (formally Abia State Polytechnic) Aba, where the leaders of the movement addressed the enthusiastic crowd.
The highlight of the event was the annoucement of a comprehensive grassroots mobilisation structure by the Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, a move widely regarded as a strategic step towards strengthening the Abia Arise Movement ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking before the enthusiastic crowd, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke announced that soon, polling unit heads across every polling unit in Aba North Local Government Area will be unveiled, describing the initiative as a deliberate move to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and ensure effective coordination ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The Mayor explained that the structure would comprise members drawn from all pro-groups alongside the Labour Party, while emphasizing that the polling unit heads would be core members of the Abia Arise Movement who have remained steadfast and loyal to Governor Alex Otti from the very beginning of the movement.
According to him, the carefully selected leadership structure would eliminate excuses and ensure that every polling unit remains fully active and organised ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
His announcement was greeted with thunderous applause, cheers and chants from supporters who described the initiative as another significant milestone in consolidating the grassroots strength of the Abia Arise Movement across Aba North.
It was noted that the unveiling of the polling unit leadership structure demonstrated the Mayor’s commitment to building a formidable grassroots network capable of sustaining the movement’s mobilisation efforts while strengthening coordination at the ward and polling unit levels.
Addressing the gathering, the State Chairman of Abia Arise Movement, Mazi Nkem Okoro, commended the organisers for the successful rally and maintained that Governor Otti’s impressive performance over the past three years has earned him overwhelming support for a second term to consolidate the administration’s developmental achievements.

The State Coordinator of Abia Arise described the movement as the recognised grassroots mobilisation structure of the Labour Party in Abia State, explaining that it complements the party’s activities by strengthening its grassroots presence across the state.
He therefore urged all Labour Party candidates to collapse their individual political structures into Abia Arise in order to promote unity, deepen collaboration and ensure electoral success, stressing that the movement remains committed to mobilising support for all Labour Party candidates.

“We gather under the banner of Abia Arise not just to make noise, but to celebrate a radical departure from the dark past into an era of tangible infrastructural renewal. We are here to celebrate a Governor who has done so much for the state,“ Amb. Emelike declared
