Abia State Assembly Moves to Review Land Petition, Receives 2025 Financial Statement

The Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, took further legislative steps on a petition seeking the return of a disputed residential land, while also receiving the state’s 2025 Financial Statement for legislative scrutiny.
During plenary, lawmakers entertained the presentation of the report of the Joint Committee on Lands and Housing and Public Petitions on a petition titled “An Appeal for Ministry of Lands to Return My Land: Plot No. R/127 at Government Station Layout Allocated to Me for Residential Purpose,” submitted by Mrs. Elizabeth Uchenna Emezue.
The report was presented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, representing Umuahia East State Constituency. After deliberations, the House adopted the report as its working document and subsequently committed it to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative consideration and necessary action.
The day’s plenary commenced at exactly 1:21 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Hon. Isienyi Boniface, representing Ikwuano State Constituency. Members also adopted the Votes and Proceedings of the previous plenary held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as a true record and the House’s working document.
Presiding over the session, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, welcomed students from the Students’ Representative Council of the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba, who were present at the Assembly Complex to observe legislative proceedings. The delegation was led by the Speaker of the institution’s 9th Parliament, Hon. Okoro Blessing.
In another key development, the Speaker announced that the House had officially received the Abia State Financial Statement for the year ended 2025 from the Accountant General. The document was referred to the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance for detailed examination and further legislative action.
At the conclusion of proceedings, the House adjourned plenary to reconvene at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, for the continuation of legislative business.
