“VDM is God. You are a common person. I’m God. Shut up” — VeryDarkMan Fires Back at Critics Over Okoye Family Dispute
Controversial social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) has fired back at critics questioning his decision to wade into the ongoing controversy surrounding the Okoye family, insisting that he will continue to speak on issues he believes require public scrutiny.
VDM, known for his outspoken approach to social and public matters, reacted angrily to those urging him to stay away from the dispute involving the Okoye brothers, Peter and Paul, and their family members.
The activist questioned why he should remain silent when the matter has already become a subject of widespread public discussion, particularly with different accounts and claims emerging from those involved.
According to him, the fact that a matter involves celebrities does not mean members of the public should accept every claim without questioning or fact-checking it.
VDM maintained that he would continue to examine claims made by the parties involved, regardless of criticism from those who believe he has no business intervening in the family dispute.
He drew comparisons between the current Okoye controversy and the events that followed the death of singer Mohbad, arguing that some of the people now criticising him for speaking out had displayed a similar attitude during that period.
VDM recalled his insistence that a DNA test should be conducted during the Mohbad controversy, claiming that his position helped keep public attention on the case.
He also alleged that his involvement came at a personal cost, claiming that members of his family, including his mother, father and sisters, were subjected to insults during the heated public debate.
The social commentator further claimed that public opinion had almost “k+lled” singer Naira Marley because of what he described as a one-sided narrative surrounding the case.
According to him, Naira Marley was eventually freed because there was no evidence against him and because he was not in the country at the time.
Using his experience from the Mohbad controversy to justify his involvement in the Okoye matter, VDM argued that remaining silent simply because people are demanding that he stay away would be contrary to his approach to public issues.
He maintained that celebrities and other public figures are not beyond scrutiny and that statements made by them should be examined rather than automatically accepted as facts.
In a particularly provocative response to his critics, VDM declared: “VDM is God. You are a common person. I’m God. Shut up.”
The statement has added another layer to the already heated conversation surrounding his involvement in the Okoye family dispute, with the social commentator making it clear that he has no intention of backing down.
VDM also put his money behind his demands, offering ₦50 million to anyone who can provide proof relating to the issues he has been raising in connection with the controversy.
He further addressed claims involving Nigerian rapper Phyno, saying that Peter Okoye had presented the musician as an important witness in the dispute.
According to VDM, Peter told him: “VDM, Phyno is my witness. Jude scammed Phyno.”
VDM said the claim immediately raised questions for him, particularly because of the implication that Phyno could provide important evidence concerning the allegations.
He explained that he subsequently approached Phyno to establish whether the claim was accurate, saying the rapper denied the allegation.
“Phyno is going to be a key witness in this case. I felt sympathy for him. I went to ask Phyno and Phyno said, ‘No, that’s not true,’” VDM recounted.
His latest comments are expected to further fuel the ongoing public debate surrounding the Okoye family, as questions continue to emerge over the competing claims and allegations being circulated publicly.
With VDM insisting on independently questioning the claims being made, his intervention has become another significant part of the wider conversation, even as critics continue to challenge his decision to involve himself in the matter.
