“…We Can All Proudly Walk Around And Say We Have Somebody Who Is Showing The Light Of What Governance Is All About” — Ohuabunwa-Led Enyimba Economic City Board Says, Visits Gov. Alex Otti, Pledges Support for Abia’s Economic Transformation
The newly reconstituted Board of the Enyimba Economic City Development Company, led by its Chairman, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, has paid a courtesy visit to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, as the board begins efforts to strengthen collaboration with the state government towards the development of the ambitious Enyimba Economic City project.
The delegation visited Governor Otti in his office on Friday, August 14, 2026, where discussions centred on the future of the Enyimba Economic City and opportunities for closer cooperation between the board and the Abia State Government.
Speaking during the visit, Mazi Ohuabunwa commended Governor Otti for what he described as exceptional leadership and the visible transformation taking place across Abia State since the administration assumed office.
“Since you came, we can all proudly walk around and say we have somebody who is showing the light of what governance is all about. Especially when we talk about democratic dividends,” Mazi Ohuabunwa said.
The Board Chairman noted that the impact of good governance was now becoming increasingly visible to residents, particularly through infrastructure and other development projects being executed across the state.
“Democratic dividends used to be a theoretical concept for most Nigerians. But now we can see it. We now drive on good roads and witness visible development across the State,” he said.
Ohuabunwa described Enyimba Economic City as a “pan-Igbo project,” stressing that its development goes beyond Abia State and has the potential to serve as a major economic hub for the entire South-East and Nigeria.
He explained that the delegation was at Government House not only to pay a courtesy visit but also to identify practical areas where the board could collaborate with the Otti administration to advance the project and support the broader economic transformation agenda of the state.
“Our desire is that the good job you started will be completed. We need to know what we can do individually and collectively. We would like to know how we can assist you and assist your government,” Mazi Ohuabunwa stated.
He further assured Governor Otti that members of the board were prepared to contribute their experience, expertise and networks individually and collectively toward the success of the administration and the realisation of the economic potential of Abia.
Responding, Governor Otti thanked the delegation for the visit and welcomed the opportunity for renewed engagement between the state government and the Enyimba Economic City Development Company.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes focused on improving the welfare and security of residents, while creating an enabling environment capable of attracting investments, stimulating businesses and expanding economic opportunities.
Governor Otti also congratulated Mazi Ohuabunwa on his appointment as Chairman of the reconstituted board, expressing confidence that the calibre and experience of its members would contribute significantly to the development of Enyimba Economic City and the wider economic aspirations of Abia State.
The Governor’s administration has consistently placed industrialisation, investment promotion, infrastructure development and job creation at the centre of its economic agenda, with projects such as the Enyimba Economic City expected to play a strategic role in positioning Abia as a major investment and manufacturing destination.
The visit therefore marks an important step toward strengthening institutional collaboration around the project and exploring new opportunities that could accelerate its development and unlock its potential as a major economic centre.
Members of the delegation included Professor Barth Nnaji, Professor Osita Ogbu, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Major-General Obi Abel Umahi (Rtd), Chief Onyeuku Chidi and Chidi Ajaegbu, among others.
Governor Otti was joined at the meeting by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); the Principal Secretary and Chief Strategy Officer to the Abia State Government, Mr. Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu; Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Evaluation, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Comrade S.O.B.
